Many of Blaisdell’s acquaintances thought that his idea was ridiculous, especially considering the poor financial state of the country at that time (Great Depression). At $1.95, the Zippo lighter was sold with a lifetime warranty, and soon gained enough popularity to be labeled as a hit.
