Zippo Wick Care
Trimming the Wick:
Once you notice that the wick is black from the carbon, use a pair of pliers to pull it up until you see aclean wick. Then, cut the wick so that it is on the same level as the top of the chimney. Now, straighten the wick in the chimney.
Replacing the Wick:
First, remove the insert and detach the flint spring, making sure to hold the spring and the screw tightly when the screw is about to be released. Thereafter, get rid of the felt pad and put it away. Utilize tweezers to eliminate all the packing in the fuel chamber and go on to install a new wick through the chimney in a downward fashion, all the while pulling with the tweezers. Put the packing back in small pieces while intertwining the wick and the packing. Then, restore the flint, felt pad, screw, and flint spring. Make sure you tighten the screw all the way so that the lighter will close correctly. Cutthe wick so that it is level with the top of the chimney, and then straighten it up as the final touch.
Replacing the Cotton:
To re-pack the inside unit of the lighter, it is okay to use ordinary cotton balls that you can find pretty much anywhere. Depending on what kind of lighter you have, you will need five for the regular size and four for the slim size. First, get rid of the lighter insert, which can be found in the case. Remove the flint spring carefully, making sure to hold both the screw and spring very firmly when they are released. Take the felt pad and put it to the side for later.
Take the tweezers and use it to remove all of the packing in the fuel chamber. Replace the packing by intertwining the wick and packing in small pieces. Then, replace the screw, flint, flint spring, and felt pad to their prospective locations. Lastly, put the screw back on firmly, so that it will close correctly.
